Who I AM ?

My name is Léna Descottes. I’m originally from France and have been living in Ireland for several years. I spend much of the year on Inishbofin Island, where I started this little business on my own a year and a half ago.

Every day, I continue to discover the incredible material that is wool. I try, I experiment, I learn from other wool workers and artisans, I do my research — but above all, I try to build my own little world with what I have and what nature offers me.

In just a short time, I’ve built up a stock of wool from several sheep breeds, thanks to the generous help of a few farmers — and especially with the support of my partner, Colman, and his parents, Paddy-Joe and Regina, whom I thank a thousand times over.

I also learned the basics of shearing with hand shears and machine shearing from Rory Grogan, an extraordinary human and shearer who is very attentive, gentle, and patient with the sheep.

We’ve built a small workshop (already overflowing!) where I’m learning various techniques using different old machines.
